The Telegraph High Street of the Year award is being presented to Marlene Burnham by Brandon Lewis MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government who has ministerial responsibility for high streets, town centres and markets and who was the Chair of the Telegraph competition tomorrow – 16th January at 12.05 in the High Street. The banner was designed and created by the lovely Luke from Sign from Above in Mill Road at very short notice.

32 local businesses contributed to the cost and the Chamber of Trade arranged for it to be hung on Wednesday afternoon. Huge thanks to Martin Catt Aerials for giving so generously of his time. Money left over was spent on matching reverse printed window stickers which will be distributed on Thursday morning.

Time pressures – the 5 metre banner was to be ready for Thursday’s award ceremony – meant that it was unfortunately not possible to visit all businesses in the time available and give them the opportunity to contribute. However ideally two more banners should be displayed at the north and south ends of town and three more businesses have already come forward so…if you would like to contribute to a further banner then please send an email to pat@highstreetdeal.co.uk. Each 5 metre single sided banner requires a minimum of 13 businesses to contribute.
