Trains from Deal to St Pancras severely disrupted

Line closed between Folkestone Central and Dover Priory

Following severe damage to a sea wall in Dover on Christmas Eve, the railway line between Dover Priory and Folkestone Central is currently closed until further notice.

Since then, the wall has deteriorated further with severe damage to a number of sections and there are a number of sink holes two or three metres deep along the length of the wall.

Major work will need to be carried out to repair the track and the sea wall will also need to be rebuilt. Network Rail engineers are on site carrying out a full assessment of the damage – once this is complete an estimate will be made about when the railway will reopen although it is expected to remain closed for a substantial time.

How this affects train services

Trains are unable to run between Folkestone Central and Dover Priory. This means that peak high speed Kent Coast services and most off peak services are unable to stop at Dover Priory, Martin Mill, Walmer, Deal or Sandwich.

Until the line re-opens the following arrangements will be in place –

Buses are replacing trains between Folkestone West, Folkestone Central & Dover Priory.

Whilst the line is closed, you will also be able to use the car-park at Folkestone West free of charge.
