Royal Marines 25th Anniversary Memorial Concert & March

Posted on Jul 2, 2014

To mark the 25th Anniversary of the bombing of the barracks at Deal in 1989 there will be a special memorial Concert, Re-Dedication Service and March by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines – Portsmouth & Collingwood – on Sunday 13 July 2014 at 2pm.

The Deal Memorial Bandstand is located on Walmer Green near Deal. It is a memorial to the eleven musicians killed when the Royal Marines School of Music was bombed on 22 September 1989. Eleven sides of the twelve-sided structure have engraved tablets bearing the names of those that lost their lives.

Concerts are held on Sunday afternoons from May to December. They are free of charge, as are the chairs, although the Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust will hold a collection and sell raffle tickets to cover the costs of the bands and the upkeep of the Bandstand.

This event is sponsored by The East Kent Mercury.
